Childhood carries a type of fearlessness, one borne from innocence or naivety. In “Prodigy,” Charles Simic examines how a child can be unerringly gifted, yet sheltered. The starkness made me think of a sharp Polaroid, ironic because the speaker can’t remember too clearly.
