Approaching fear and difficult subjects with humor seems, well, difficult, but my readings today prove it can be done.
First, in short stories, “War Dances,” from the book of the same title by Sherman Alexie. It’s perfect, and made even more hilarious to me by my familiarity with those health problems. A wink, a nudge, a wonderful read.
Essay! Inheritance Tax by Scaachi Koul, from One Day We’ll All Be Dead And None of This Will Matter. It’s a meditation on family, and how fears are a byproduct of them and our surroundings. I laughed so much.
So what did I learn? Have a strong voice. Take risks. Be bold.
